Virgin Staining for this 50-year-old Cabin
Built in 1974 by the (still) owner, this New England style log cabin is solid but had never been stained in over fifty years. Now gearing up for retirement, the owner was concerned to preserve it for future generations. We repaired several feet of log rot, washed, stained with PCS Log & Timber Defense, and caulked every seam to eliminate leaks. We repaired stairs, a landing, and outdoor shower floor behind the home. We also rebuilt the steps leading up to their awesome treehouse and repaired its decking. All-in-all, this home is now up to snuff and ready for many more years of enjoyment.
Situated on family land right on the Nansemond River, this cabin offers peace, freedom, and stunning views of the marsh and waters beyond. All it *was* lacking was log protection and sealant to last into future generations.
Weathered and showing signs of mildew and fungus, this river home had never before been stained.
Several areas, including log ends, showed signs of rot and decay.
The owners also have a quaint "treehouse" they had built so many years ago that the tree was growing into the stairs and blocking off access.
They asked us to rebuilt the stairs on the opposite side of the landing, as well as repair the deck floor so that their grandchildren and pets would not fall through this big hole they'd stuffed with a chair temporarily...
So we fixed the deck...
And rebuilt the stairs.
We also replaced a portion of their outdoor shower floor, as well as replacing some treads and a full landing on their back stairway.
We patched up the rotted logs by refacing and epoxy, as needed.
Applied borates and two coats of stain.
Perma-Chink System's Log & Timber Defense was the right coating for the job. The owners chose Saffron, which gives the home a nice, warm hue.
We also caulked every seam on the home and eliminated a downpour in the sunroom when it rained.
This sweet little home with special memories is now now repaired, protected, and beautified.
